Composite decking clips are not universal across all brands, but LastElegance clips are designed to fit our full range of grooved composite decking boards. Every manufacturer uses a slightly different groove depth, groove height and clip geometry, so mixing clips from one brand with boards from another can lead to loose fixing, uneven gaps or board movement.
For the best result, use LastElegance clips with LastElegance decking. Importers, distributors and merchants can order clips and boards together in the same shipment, and we can supply clips matched to custom board profiles on request.
Use self-drilling screws when fixing composite cladding to metal battens, and self-tapping screws when fixing to timber or wood-plastic composite (WPC) battens. Self-drilling screws have a drill-point tip that cuts through steel or aluminium framing without pre-drilling. Self-tapping screws have a thread that cuts cleanly into softer timber and WPC battens.
LastElegance self-drilling screws are made from 410 stainless steel. Our self-tapping screws are available in 201, 304 and 316 stainless steel, so you can match the grade to the project environment. For coastal or high-humidity locations in Australia, 316 stainless steel gives the best corrosion resistance. Our team can recommend the right screw for your batten system and specification.
Grooved composite decking should be fixed with hidden clips and screws, not screwed through the board face. The clip sits in the groove and holds the board, and the screw goes through the clip into the joist. This secures the board while allowing for natural expansion and contraction. It also leaves a clean surface with no visible screw heads.
Following this method gives a better finish and helps keep installations consistent across large commercial and multi-unit projects.
You need approximately 25 clips per square metre of composite decking when joists are spaced at 300–350mm centres. This figure applies to LastElegance grooved boards at that spacing. Wider joist spacing changes the quantity.

Leave a 5mm gap between composite decking boards. This allows for thermal expansion, supports drainage, and prevents water pooling on the surface. LastElegance hidden clips help maintain this spacing consistently across the whole deck.
